About

While the Galaxy S20 is a year older phone than the Galaxy S21, both these phones remain leaders of all Android phones in the industry.

Some of the most understandable spec upgrades that new models come with include a faster processor, upgraded IU, and improved battery performance. However, you may be surprised, and one of these new models comes with S Pen support and two telephoto lenses. And what’s interesting is that these new phones cost $200 less than their predecessors.

In this article, we will compare both Galaxy S20 and S21 lineups to see which one is better.

Specs

Price

Interestingly, Samsung has attached a smaller price tag to its newest models. The Galaxy S21 is available at $799, the S21 costs $999, and the most premium in the series S21 Ultra costs $1199. All of these are starting prices with 128GB internal storage. You can upgrade to a 256GB variant. It will cost you $50 extra.

All of these prices are $200 less than S20 models. The launch price of the Galaxy S20 was $999. The Galaxy S20 Plus was available at $1119. And, the Galaxy S20 Ultra had a price tag of $1399.

Design and models

The S20 series started with three models of different sizes. The Galaxy S20 FE was launched after a while. The S21 lineup is rather straightforward with the company using the big/bigger/biggest approach.

Overall, the new models are not much different from the previous ones. The S21 and S21 Plus feature straighter edges, while the S21 Ultra comes with more curved edges.

The most significant difference between the S20 and S21 is the rear camera arrangement. The new models employ a camera setup that blends into the metal frame of the phone. Samsung has called this camera arrangement the Contour Cut camera housing.

Display

Samsung added a faster screen-refresh rate to its S20 models to allow for smooth scrolling and improved user experience. The Galaxy S21 lineup is even more improved in this regard.

While the S21 lineup comes with the same screen-refresh rate (120Hz) as that of the Galaxy S20, it also features the ability to adjust that refresh rate dynamically. It means that the new models do not keep the refresh rate high when it is not required. The screen refresh rate fluctuates between 48Hz and 120Hz, depending on the type of content running on the screen.

The Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus come with full-HD plus resolution. The S21 Ultra, on the other hand, has a QHD screen. The Galaxy S20 lineup equips all of its models with QHD screens.

Cameras

The camera setup is the most prominent and best feature in the Galaxy S20 lineup. The Galaxy S20 Ultra particularly has high-end camera hardware, comprising a 108MP primary camera and a highly potent telephoto lens.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra comes with even more improved specs. The 108MP primary lens remains the same. The optical zooming capability of this phone is supplemented by an additional 3x zoom. The primary telephoto lens offers 10x zoom. The new series also includes laser autofocus to fix issues related to focusing.

Performance

The Galaxy S20 family comes with the Snapdragon 865 chipset. The Galaxy S21 family, on the other hand, employs the Snapdragon 888 in all of its models. This new processor model offers significant improvements in all areas, including graphics. Nonetheless, this processor chipset still proves inferior to Apple’s A14 Bionic.
